The affected landowners of the 4-lane Highway Dimapur by-pass on Sunday formed a committee to pursue with the authorities for full payment of land compensation.
The committee was formed in the name and style of 4-Lane Affected Landowners Joint Action Committee during a meeting of the landowners at Old Showuba Village on Sunday. The Committee is headed by Keron Janger as Convenor and Zubeni Patton as Secretary along with other members and village representatives.
During the meeting, Zubeni highlighted on the sanction of Rs 174.36 Crore approved by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highway on January 12, 2016 for the land compensation. She, however, said that the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and other authorities had initially talked of providing only Rs 100 crore to the landowners. She said that the landowners had demanded full payment but with the passage of time, the authorities had said that compensation would not be paid unless land acquisition problem was solved in neighbouring Assam.
Demanding full payment, the affected landowners held placards some of which read, ‘NHIDCL no more excuses,’ ‘pay us immediately,’ ‘we demand full payment,’ ‘NHIDCL don’t fool the landowners’ etc.
The newly formed Committee has been entrusted to take the responsibility of communicating with the authorities for full payment of land compensation at the earliest.
