Jal Jeevan Mission project reaches Lakhuti village

Wokha, July 20 (MExN): Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project at Lakhuti village, Wokha district was inaugurated by Advisor for Horticulture & Borders Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan on July 19.

The project was executed by the Department of PHED with the main source located at Chumbolong. The main reservoir has a capacity of 1 lakh litre which aims to provide safe drinking water to all the households in the village, a DIPR report stated.

Addressing the inaugural programme at the Community Hall, Lakhuti, the Advisor said, ‘it was a long-awaited dream of the villagers which has come into reality’ and termed it a memorable and historic day. 

For proper maintenance of the machinery, Yanthan said that it depends on how best the village authority and the community maintain it, and urged them to utilize it with a sense of ownership and take responsibility for it as their own, and take good care of the machinery. He also urged the village Council and WATSAN committee members to work out modalities as to how revenue can be generated for maintenance of the machine and pumps.

EE PHED, Wokha, Imnazulu Ao informed that ‘very shortly the Department would officially hand over the project to the village authority.’ He requested the villagers to maintain and follow JJM guidelines and take responsibility for maintaining the machinery and also urged the village Council to come out with a resolution to ensure machines, pipelines, and pump are properly taken care of.

Inspection of road, playground
Later, the Advisor, accompanied by officials from PMGSY EE HQ In-charge Nagaland, departmental officials from Wokha and Kohima, Technology Provider-ELEMER enterprise, Contractor M/S North East Enterprise and village elders, inspected the ongoing construction of the road under PMGSY from Sanis to Lakhuti to ensure quality work is maintained and to oversee the progress of work. 

The Advisor also inspected the ongoing construction of a playground at Lakhuti village carried out under Khelo India to take stock of the progress of work.
