Jalukie Sangtam clears land slur

Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): The village council of Jalukie Sangtam today refuted allegations levelled against Jalukie Sangtam by persons in the name of the village councils of Jalukie Zangdi, Jalukie Kam and Jalukie Ram villages on June 30.

In a rejoinder, the Jalukie Sangtam Village Council said the village was established with the “expressed permission” of Old Jalukie Village Council in 1991 and the villagers had been continuously cultivating a portion of jhum land that is being disputed this year. This portion of land had been under the occupation of the village since the time of the village’s establishment and there had been no claims or objections whatsoever from any village or person till date, the Council stated.

Only this year, one Sangrei, an “ex-cadre DB” of Jalukiekam village started selling this particular portion of land to some vested interested persons at the rate of Rs.500 per plot for the establishment of a new village, the council stated. The plot was being sold with claims that the land belongs to him, the Jalukie Sangtam stated. The matter was settled from the court of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Jalukie in the presence of Old Jalukie Village Council and DBs and accordingly the village council had simply been abiding by the decision given.

Further, the Jalukie Sangtam Village Council has no dispute with any of the village councils of the said villages. “Our only dispute was with Mr. Sangrei, ex-cadre DB of Jalukiekam village and because of which the summon letter from the office of the SDO (Civil) Jalukie also clearly specified that, the matter was between Jalukie Sangtam village and Mr. Sangrei, of Jalukiekam village, vide MISC CASE NO.288/GA/DBC dated 20/05/09,” the council informed.

“It is for the information of all concerned that Jalukie Sangtam village has no boundary with either Jalukiekam nor Jalukiezangdi villages. There are four villages in between our villages namely, Jalukie Jingsor (Mukumchun), Shikavi, Pukhaho and Shikato villages, and therefore the question of boundary dispute does not arise,” the council reiterated. It stated that the people who know the location of the villages “will certainly be surprised as to how after crossing so many villages Mr. Sangrei of Jalukiekam village is claiming the land within our village jurisdiction.”

Also, the CGI sheets alleged to have been “stolen” by Jalukie Sangtam is “not correct”, the council stated. “The sheets are being properly stack and kept. The people who gave the press statement alleging us of theft should have the guts to first verify physically before making any proofless (sic) accusations,” it added.
