Jalukie Town Gunners win PDFA Women’s Football Cup

Jalukie, September 6 (MExN): Jalukie Town Gunners FC were crowned the first-ever champions of the Peren District Football Association (PDFA) Women’s Football Cup after defeating Jalukie Town Galacticos FC 4–0 in the final at Turf Ground, Jalukie Town.

The three-day tournament, organized by PDFA in collaboration with the Assam Rifles under the theme “Her Game, Her Glory”, highlighted the growing talent and determination of women footballers in the district.

The final began as a tightly contested encounter, with both sides battling for control and searching for an early goal. The deadlock was broken in the 35th minute when Nciepzeule of the Gunners scored. The second half was dominated by the Gunners, as Charakungliu struck twice in the 51st and 60th minutes before Thujovetsolu sealed the win with a goal in the 65th minute.

Individual awards were presented at the closing ceremony. Namtuaheile of Heningkunglwa Youth Organisation won the Golden Glove, Thiurailiu of Jalukie Town Galacticos was named Best Defender, while her teammate Nchangwiliu received Best Midfielder. The Golden Boot went to Charakungliu of Jalukie Town Gunners with nine goals, who was also named Player of the Tournament. Thujovetsolu Vese of the Gunners was awarded Best Striker, and Keheinam of the Gunners was adjudged Best Coach.

Special guest ADC Peren, D. Robin, praised PDFA for promoting women’s sports and emphasized the importance of breaking away from traditional gender roles. “From traditional gender roles to equal representation in national and international arenas, the progress of women in sports reflects a positive shift,” he said, urging PDFA to make the tournament an annual fixture to nurture more talent.

Roko Angami, OSD Sports, Department of Youth Resource and Sports, Government of Nagaland, congratulated the organizers and revealed plans to scout players from the tournament for the Nagaland team. He noted the growing prominence of women’s football, citing their recent success in the SAFF U17 championship.

Guest of honour Brig. Mayank S. Jamwal, Commander of 6 Sector Assam Rifles, attended the valedictory programme along with Col. Mohit Kumar Bansal and Maj. Anupam Mishra. They distributed the prizes to the winners.

The closing ceremony also featured songs by Kenlumyile and GL Naga, an invocation by Rev. Dr. Mongzeung Mpom, and speeches from PDFA president Raithu Newmai and general secretary Kengim Hegui.
