Dimapur, January 10 (MExN): Senior Congress leader from Nagaland Dr SC Jamir has clarified on the visit made to Manipur to meet Chief Minister Ibobi Singh by a team of Congress leaders from Nagaland. Jamir in a press note has termed as unfortunate that in Nagaland there is a tendency to look at “every sincere and honest effort with jaundice eyes”.
Jamir maintained that “it was time for all the organizations to put their very sincere efforts to help in the early solution of the Naga problem and fall in line with the solemn resolution of the 60 MLAs in this great political experiment”. Jamir explained that it was in this context, a five member unofficial delegation consisting of senior Congress namely himself, Tokeho Yepthomi, K V Pusa, H Chuba Chang and K Therie met Ibobi Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur.
“As members of the same Congress family, it was felt strongly by the delegation that the Chief Minister of Manipur should be apprised of the genuine feelings of all sections of the people involved in the ongoing political process”, Jamir stated while adding that the decades of political negotiation is on the “threshold of final consummation in which the Manipur had to play its positive role”.
“Now that the territorial integrity of Manipur is protected, any improvement as envisaged in the ongoing political process for the Hill areas should be acceptable in the larger interest of the state”, Jamir stated while adding that Nagas and other tribals need protection in some degree as in other parts of the country. According to Jamir, the Manipur CM responded favorably to help the tribals in all possible ways.
“This agenda covers both administrative and special economic dispensation”, Jamir stated.
Jamir also pointed out that Ibobi had acknowledged that peace and normalcy have to be restored in this region particularly for the progress and prosperity of Manipur and Nagaland respectively.
“The delegation returned to Nagaland with all the positive appreciation of the Chief Minister of Manipur on the issues raised by it”, Jamir stated.
As such the former Nagaland Chief Minister has appealed to all concerned to restraint from making statements which are devoid of true facts. “It is the duty of all concerned to educate the general public with correct information”.
