Panaji, Jan 21 (MExN): SC Jamir today created history of sorts by becoming the first Governor of Goa since Statehood (1987) to step on the island of Chorao on Mandovi river, about 4 kilometres from State capital Panaji. Chorao Island, also known as Queen of Islands in Goa, is famous for the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary the world over and is the largest island in Goa with a population of about 11,000 persons. It is accessible only through ferry across the river Mandovi. A function was organised by the Chorao Panchayat for His Excellency to felicitate some 17 senior prominent citizens of the Island. Those felicitated included freedom fighters, farmer, doctors, social workers and artistes.
