Japan Governmentt hopes to enhance relationship with Nagaland

Japan Foreign Affairs officials, JICA team visit Tseminyu district

Tseminyu, April 11 (MExN): Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Mission Members, India visited Tseminyu district on April 10. On their field visit to Tseminyu village, the officials visited the Forestry Intervention Model Area in Tseminyu village which is being implemented under the Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP). 

The Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) members apprised the officials on various agricultural practices of the community. A press release from Media Cell, Divisional Management Unit, NFMP, Kohima stated that various records and registers maintained by the JFMC were also reviewed by the officials. 

Speaking during a brief reception programme held in the village, Tokita Yuji, Director of Country Assistance Planning Division II, International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciated the support of the village community for extending their cooperation in the project implementation. 

He hoped that the project will be further enhanced and implemented in a sustainable way in the future. He further expressed hope that the Japan Government and his team would continue to work in the future in further enhancing the relationship between Japan and India, Japan and Nagaland and Japan and Tseminyu village.

Wakamatsu Eiji, Senior Representative, JICA India Office expressed happiness to see that the project is well received by the village and hoped that the project contribute more prosperity to Tseminyu village.  

Temjenyabang, IFS, CCF & Project Director (Administration, Finance and Procurement) NFMP expressed delight on the progress made in the village with the ardent support from the community. 

Mentioning that every member of the village is a member of the project, he said, ‘this shows a bond that we have in every Naga village and believed the guest from Japan will take back with them.’ He further encouraged the Tseminyu village community to continue to cooperate with the Department and project to take the project further and improve not just the environment, ecology, state or village but also improve the livelihood and economy of their village. 

In Terogvunyu village, the officials visited the village gate, constructed as the Entry Point Activity under NFMP. They interacted with the members of three Self Help Groups selected under NFMP to take up Income Generation Activities. The SHGs members briefed them on the various activities which they took up and how it contributed to their livelihood improvement. 

Other members of the visiting officials included Hosaka Shun, Second Secretary, Economic Wing, Embassy of Japan in India and Uda Chikako, Senior Development Policy Planning Officer of Country Assistance Planning Division II, International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visiting team were accompanied by Temjenyabang,  IFS, CCF &  Project Director (Administration, Finance and Procurement) NFMP, Supongnukshi Ao, CCF (Environment, Biodiversity & Research), Forest Department,  Nagaland, Chisayi IFS, DFO & DMU Head Kohima, Dr Sevono Seletsu DCF & ADMU Head Kohima and Yhuntilo Kent, FMU Head, Tseminyu Range. 

It may be mentioned that Tseminyu (Batch-III) and Terogvunyu (Batch-II) are NFMP villages selected for project implementation.
