JCPI, tribe bodies resolve to cooperate with RIIN

DIMAPUR, JULY 5 (MExN): The Joint Commission on Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) held a meeting today with apex tribe apex bodies today and decided to extend full cooperation to the authorized implementing agencies with regard to the Nagaland Government’s set up of the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN).

A press note from the JCPI stated that in order to prevent inconsistent enumeration, the meeting resolved that December 1, 1963 should be the cut out year for all indigenous inhabitants other than the recognized Naga tribes of Nagaland as per the government notification of 1977.

In case of verification for any Naga indigenous tribes of Nagaland their native/ancestral village will have the final say, the meeting resolved. It also stated that responsibility delegated for enumeration should be indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland “who are known for their dedication and integrity.”

The meeting also urged that apex tribe bodies along with their village councils and GBs, should be given vetting authority and responsibility to judiciously carry out the survey under their respective jurisdictions “as per their customary practices.”

Meanwhile affirming the slogan ‘Nagas (of Nagaland) by blood not Adoption,’ the house asked enumerators and the vetting authorities like village councils/GBs/tribe hohos to be vigilant and ensure that people of “doubtful ancestry” are not registered as indigenous persons.
