DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 13 (MExN): The Janata Dal United (JDU) Nagaland has decided not to attend the October 15 meeting called by the Nagaland State Government.
“All appropriate moments and opportunities have been slept over and it is a matter of sheer desperation that the ruling dispensation has woken up too belatedly to find an escape route for its utter failure to handle the most crucial Naga issue,” a press release from the publicity wing of the JDU Nagaland stated.
It added that the ruling government has not lived up to its much “propounded manifesto of facilitating the Indo-Naga issue save some paper statements.” “When even the much acclaimed Political Affairs Committee (PAC) formed by the Government could not take off, what is the need for having so-called consultation with stake holders?” the party questioned.
It rather asked the Nagaland Government to “clean up its own mess before going out to seek participation of the masses.” The JDU felt that at this juncture, there is no room left for political parties to participate or even put up suggestions as enough time has passed over when unanimity of political parties could have mattered to the negotiating parties.
“The direct and indirect roles played by the various political parties are not a secret to anyone and therefore organising a state-wide consultation at this moment could amounts to a mere white-wash,” it claimed.
The JDU said that the least the ruling dispensation can do now is to “reiterate its resolve to step down in the event of any interim arrangement as a result of the ongoing Indo-Naga political dialogue.”
