JEE fiasco: Sack Minister, Congress demands

DIMAPUR, AUG 3 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has stated that it was dumbfounded and aggrieved to come across the recent controversy of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), wherein the Minister for School Education, Information & Technology and Technical Education, Imkong L. Imchen not only abused the power but also acted in a way which was unbecoming of a Minister.

“Instead of defending Imchen in the recent controversy of JEE, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in all fairness should show his DAN Government’s sincerity to the people in eradicating corruption and nepotism”, stated a press communiqué issued by Zhenito, Secretary Media Committee of the NPCC.

The NPCC urged the State Government to immediately take action and sack Imchen from the Ministry thereby delivering justice to the rightful candidate.

Stating that Imchen had admitted that the two additional seats were granted by the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister to the State after his request in the capacity of a Minister and Chairman of the Selection Board for JEE, the NPCC however lamented that Imchen chose his own son for MBBS course from the two additional seats allotted to the State by violating the norms of selecting the candidates on merit basis.

“His act of nepotism has undermined the will of the people, which is supreme in a democratic set-up Government. Imchen should remember that he has been elected by the people to serve the people. Imchen should first think of serving the people rather than his family while enjoying the facilities and privileges of a Minister”, the NPCC stated.

Commenting on the issue of Office of Profit, the NPCC reminded that Imchen had recently said, “As a minister, I am getting salary, bungalow, vehicles and many such things whereas an MLA as chairman of a corporation gets peanuts” and that if such are the facilities the Minister was enjoying then why should he snatch away the rights of other poor students in the recent JEE by selecting his own son, who does not figure in the merit list to undergo the MBBS course?, the NPCC questioned and pointed out that the Minister should be more willing to sacrifice and give seat to others in case his son is selected for the course. “But that sense does not prevail upon him and his true colour of being a selfish person has been exposed”.

The NPCC also took a dig at the Minister for his earlier unfavorable comment on the 16-point agreement maintaining that Imchen, despite having being enjoying the fruits of 16 Point Agreement, as a minister in the State has even asked the signatories of 16 Point Agreement to withdraw and denounce it. “Taking into accounts the way Imchen has been behaving as Minister, the present DAN Government may invite more embarrassment from the people”, the NPCC stated.
