JGHSS celebrates 70 years

Kohima, August 27 (DIPR): John Govt. Higher Secondary School (JGHSS), Viswema observed its 70th anniversary at the school’s Assembly Hall with NPSC Secretary, Khrupi Sothu as the chief guest on August 27.  

The chief guest said, ‘Today we are grateful to the founding members and land donors of the school who had a vision for the betterment of future generation and established the school and further handed down to us.” He stated that JGHSS, considered the third oldest school in Nagaland, has produced a number of great leaders, bureaucrats in different fields from Southern Angami villages and other Naga villages from neighboring State of Manipur.  

“Once our school is considered as one of the best schools in Nagaland but with the fast paced changes in the education sector, the school performance is sadly sliding backward comparing in the last ten years,” he expressed.  

Sothu said the State Government upgraded the school to higher secondary school in the year 2014 and the school has now HSSLC exam centre. The first batch of HSSLC 2016 result was 70.59 % pass percentage, he said, adding it showed the sincerity and dedication of the teaching faculty members.  

He therefore encouraged all the stakeholders - teachers, parents, students, the managing board and all concerned - to come and reason together for further improvement of the school. He also challenged the participants to wake up from deep slumber of stagnancy and challenge oneself to bring progress and development of the school so that the efforts of our forefathers do not go wasted.  

The School Headmaster, Krope Koza in his welcome address said that the commemoration of 70th year of JGHSS in such special manner was for the upcoming Platinum Jubilee celebration which will be held in 2021 and also to create awareness among the well-wishers. Others who gave short speeches included Vikulto John; Rusovil John, Member Secretary, Nagaland Pollution Control Board; KN Pusha; U.K. Nair.  The chief guest also released the school magazine.
