
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 12 (MExN): The Joint Legislators' Forum (JLF) today decided to form a Core Committee comprising of elected members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, irrespective of party affiliations, to urge upon the Government of India and all other stakeholders for an early settlement of the Indo-Naga political issue.
This was decided during a consultative meeting held by the JLF on the Naga political issue under the Chairmanship of newly elected NLA Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer at the Assembly Secretariat conference hall on February 12.
A press release from the NLA informed that “the Joint Legislators' Forum had deliberated extensively on the Naga Political Issue and felt the urgent necessity for achievement of an early negotiated political settlement, and in furtherance of the objectives; it has decided to constitute a Committee.”
A Nominating Committee consisting of NLA Speaker and JLF Chairman, Sharingain Longkumer; Leader of Opposition, TR Zeliang; Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Neiba Kronu; and Health and Family Welfare Minister, S Pangnyu Phom were entrusted to form the Core Committee.
Later, Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio meanwhile released the booklets on the profile of the Speakers and list of members from Interim Body to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly. He further appealed to the ex-Parliamentarians gathered there to support the effort of the Joint Legislators' Forum for Naga political solution. Minister for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu meanwhile distributed Laptops to all the Parliamentarians and ex-Parliamentarians.
