Jubilee Memorial College (JMC), Mokokchung celebrated ‘World Earth Day’ by organising a seminar on the theme ‘Invest in our planet’ and a plantation drive. The event was organised by the Department of Environment Science in collaboration with NSS, JMC.
At the event, resource person Mokokchung Divisional Forest Officer Dr Sentitula talked about the environmental problems and environmental degradation that poses a threat to mother earth. She talked about maintaining a balance between extremes of ecology and economy, conservation and development, protection and people’s needs, global issues and local issues, intergenerational and immediate. She also stressed on the role of individuals in saving mother earth and focussed on what an individual can do at the global and local level with bigger interest in the local level.
The resource person along with the principal Dr Imtiwati Jamir and Vice-Principal Akumyala, JMC and NSS volunteers planted and adopted a tree each commemorating the day. Note of gratitude and acknowledgement was proposed by Dr Kilangnaro, Head of Department, EVS.
