Mokokchung: Considered as one of the premier educational institutions in Mokokchung town, Jubilee Memorial School (JMS), established in the year 1989, has come a long way in imparting quality education to students from all walks of life.

As the name Jubilee Memorial School signifies, this school was incepted 'as a home Mission Field' to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA) in May, 1987. With the aim to establish "a school for quality education that 'includes learning to know, to do, to live together and to be,'" the school was founded on March 4, 1989.

"(It was) a lofty 'aspiration' which Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA) in its Golden Jubilee Year had 'awakened' itself to," stated Wapangnao Pongen, the vice principal of the school.

Today, Jubilee Memorial School with its motto "Mount Up Like Eagle', stands majestically on a sprawling school campus in Salangtem Ward, educating students and 'inspiring them to reach for the skies to crest above and beyond the lofty regions'. The school presently has classes from Nursery to Class XII, with a strong well-qualified faculty, administered by a Principal and looked after by a Board of Governors drawn from different fields of education, social service, administration, etc. It also has numbers of co-curricular activities likes sports week, summer camp, workshops, parents day etc, so the personalities of the students can be molded in an all-round manner.

The school also has a fulltime Counselor 'to attend to the psychological needs of the learners through personal counseling'. The teaching faculty members, turn by turn, participate in annual educational seminars and workshops at ICSE centres located in different metro cities. JMS adopted the system of education under the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi, which is considered as one of the top School Boards in India. It was granted 'Provisional Affiliation' from ICSE on October 10, 1997, after the first inspection by the Council. On July 17, 2002, the School was granted permanent affiliation to ICSE, New Delhi.

Wapangnaro, the vice principal, stated that the specific objectives of the School, as outlined in the constitution, 2001, is to give each individual students the opportunity and freedom for the  fullest development as a total person; academically, physically, emotionally, spiritually and socially. To provide higher quality programme of curricular and co-curricular activities; and developing the mental, physical, social, cultural training under a Christian atmosphere for the promotion of scholarship and research, to the advancement of human knowledge and the improvement of the quality of human life.

"Holistically and faithfully so, JMS has thus been endeavouring to fulfill the 'Mission' of the Church ever since the arrival of the first batch of LKG pupils on April 3, 1989," stated Wapangnaro.

It (JMS) proudly shares a history of excellence in nurturing the highest and best within individual learners, ever focused on their sustained development and inclusive growth. It is indeed an institution that provides learners the wings to fly and explore the lofty regions above and beyond.

A former student of the school, Bendang Chingmir, who is a teacher in a government school, gave all credit to his alma mater. "We owe a lot to Jubilee Memorial School. We are what we are today because of this school, the teachers and everyone. I hope the school will become bigger and better as it looks beyond the 25th year in the quest of providing quality education to the children," said Bendang, who was one of the first batch students of the school.

The school celebrates its Silver Jubilee on April 4, 2014 at Town Hall Mokokchung with Chief Secretary Banuo Z Jamir as the Chief Guest.
