Gospel music hall of famer John Schlitt, best known as the lead singer of Petra will be touring Nagaland come November. Schlitt will be on a nine-city tour of India starting November 4 in support of his fourth, partly fan-funded, studio album ‘The Greater Cause’. He is scheduled to perform in four venues in the north east at Shillong, Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung courtesy Metro Team – the organisers.
Metro Team at a press conference at Hiyo Café on Friday informed that the tour will kick start in Mumbai on November 4 followed by four other gigs in four different venues in the mainland. The tour will hit the north east circuit on November 15 at Shillong, November 17 in Dimapur and November 19 in Kohima. Event partner for the Mokokchung gig is yet to confirm the date. Event partners for the Nagaland leg of the tour are Finishing Touch; School of Music, Purana Bazaar; Event Factory and Lotha Baptist Church Youth Department, Seithekima.
Tickets for the concerts will be priced at Rs. 800, 500 and 200 and will start selling in about a week. One can book the tickets online @www.bookmyshow.com and www.indianstage.com.
Schlitt has recorded 16 albums during his time with grammy winning Petra as the frontman. He started out as the lead singer of Head East in the 70’s. He went solo in the mid 90’s, releasing three albums – Shake, Unfit for Swine and The Grafting. The latest being The Greater Cause.
“As a Christian artiste, I’m one of the most blessed people in the business, because I ahevan avenue to go out and do what I love… This music is a form – it’s a way to be heard. I see so much need out there; I’ve been given the opportunity to have a platform where people will listen” says Schlitt according to a hand out from Metro Team.
Metro Team said the aim is also to promote local talents. Reigning Naga Idol, Z. Renbeni Odyuo will be a regular feature alongside Schlitt the whole duration of the tour. Another local act, newly formed Aloh Wanth Band will be the opening act for the Dimapur and Kohima concerts.

Aloh Wanth Band, formed only in August this year comprise of Aloh Wanth leading the vocals and as the acoustic guitarist, Alem Jamir as the lead guitarist, Noksang on bass and Samuel Thabah on drums. The band is managed by Tiaba.
Alo Wanth started out as a solo artiste and has already released two studio albums in 2009 and 2010. His debut album ‘Beautiful and the follow up ‘Life’ has given hits like ‘look at you’, ‘beautiful day, ‘December June’, ‘Love’, ‘love your sisters’, ‘seasons of life’, and ‘Everywhere, everything. Wanth describes their sound as “Contemporary music with a feeling of Jazz, Blues, Modern Rock, Alternative and Pop”.
Their vision is ‘To communicate the heart of our Creator through Music and Songs’ while the mission ‘to build/motivate/and challenge the society, family, individuals and relationship through music and songs. Belief: ‘To love God with all our heart, mind and soul and to love everyone as ourselves’.
