Dimapur, August 6 (MExN): The joint council of seven colonies comprising Veterinary Colony, Niu Colony, United North Block-A, United North Block-B, Naga Colony, Sunrise Colony and Namgalong Colony of Burma Camp has condemned the custodial death of Ramesh Kumar Yadav of Naga Colony.
A press statement from Secretary Hempu Kamei and Chairman Tokiye Kiba of Joint Colony Council, United North Block informed that the victim was picked up on August 2 around 9:30 pm by the personnel of the East Police Station on suspicion of being an arms dealer. He died in the early hours of August 3.
“The brutality of the police torture resulted in the death and inhuman treatment meted out is totally unacceptable in any civilized society,” the statement said.
It further alleged that “the post mortem and the disposal of the dead body of the deceased was carried out in a hush hush manner and the colony authority were kept in the dark all throughout.”
Taking all the facts into account, the joint council requested the higher authorities to initiate stern action against the guilty policemen and give them exemplary punishment as “it will serve as deterrent to other rogue elements in the police force from doing any extra-judicial excesses.”
Mourning the death of Ramesh Kumar Yadav, the joint council also prayed to God to give strength to the bereaved family to overcome the grief.
