Imphal, February 6 (NNN): Former Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur and NPP National Vice President, Y Joykumar, has been appointed as the interim president of the Manipur unit of NPP.
The development follows the demise of the incumbent president, N Kaiyisii, who passed away after a prolonged illness in January.
In this regard, National People's Party (NPP) National President Conrad K Sangma issued an official order.
Meanwhile, Joykumar has appointed Kshetrigao MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan as the working president of the state unit until further orders.
Hassan was further designated as the leader of its legislative party in the Manipur Assembly, as per a statement issued by Sangma.
In November 2024, the NPP, with seven MLAs in Manipur, withdrew its support from the N Biren Singh government.
With the untimely demise of Kaiyisii, the party now has only six MLAs in the 60-member Manipur Assembly.
