
Jakhama, August 8 (MExN): In view of its Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Jakhama Students’ Union held a programme on sanitation where it distributed dustbins.
According to a press release, Chairman of Jakhama Village Council, Dr. Nolesel Zhotso, officially distributed the dustbin in a programme held at Jakhama Panchayat Hall on August 6 and stressed on the importance of sanitation. The programme was organized by Jakhama Students’ Union (JSU) in collaboration with Sanitation Committee.
The Convenor of JSU Golden Jubilee Committee Zavishio Khieya reminded villagers of their aim to bring up Jakhama village as one of the cleanest village by 2030. He mentioned the need to properly manage kitchen waste and solid/liquid management and urged the village to maintain a healthy living environment.
Co-Convenor of JSU Golden Jubilee Committee Kezhokhoto Savi stated that lack of sanitation and clean water has caused many diseases and the spread of diseases. Mentioning that most of the affected are young children below the age of 5 years, Savi stated that more than 1000 children die every day in India because of diarrhea, cholera, malaria, and other related diseases influenced by environmental factors.
