As a symbolic curtain raiser of the ambitious project to have a state of the art educational institution in Mokokchung district – Jubilee Memorial College – initiated by the Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA), a special prayer programme was held at the site for the JMC Campus site at Longkum village here this morning.

Longkum village, which is one of the biggest villages in Mokokchung district, donated the more than 200 acres plot of land to MTBA ‘free of cost’ and without any condition for the establishment of the Jubilee Memorial College. ‘A Land deal agreement’ (or to be more specific Memorandum of Understanding) was signed between the MTBA and the Longkum landowners on November 10, 2016 at Longkum which was witnessed by Longkum village Council (LVC) and Longkum Baptist Church (LBC).

As a symbolic sign of starting the development project, a team of MTBA Church leaders led by pastor Rev Ponen Longchar and MTBA Deacon Board member arrived at the site and held a brief meeting with the LVC member, the landowners (or donors) and LBC leaders.

Words of gratitude were expressed by the MTBA Church leaders, and the land donors and Longkum Village Council also expressed shared their hopes and aspirations for the Jubilee Memorial College to be set up at Longkum village jurisdiction.

After the brief formal meeting, all the members raised their hands and invoked God’s blessings, they prayed God to sanctify the land, to bless the land donors, and dedicated the project for the glorification of God’s name. After today’s consecration of the campus area, it is expected for the project to start soon; however, MTBA church leaders could not give a time frame.

Jubilee Memorial College, at present, is being run at the United Baptist Church at Salangtem Ward. This college is expected to be one of the best in the state. Besides, the usual Nagaland University syllabus, the college also focuses on ‘enrichment courses’ ‘music’ and ‘spiritual counseling’ so that the students of the college would become astute, responsible and spiritually strong citizens and future leaders of the society, said a church leader.
