DIMAPUR, JULY 20 (MExN): The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) has vehemently condemned the July 18 shooting incident at NST Colony in Dimapur where unidentified armed miscreants made an attempt on the life of an employee of Ankit Transport.
The employee was reportedly on his way to the washroom around 6:30 pm when two armed men opened fire, injuring him on the leg. He had to be rushed to the hospital.
In a press release, DCCI President, Akashe Zhimomi said it has been highlighting the issue of illegal taxation imposed on the business community by various Naga Political Groups and anti-social elements. The latest incident is another instance of the daily threat and harassment meted to the business community.
Lamenting that repeated appeals to the government and law enforcement agencies to rein in the menace of illegal taxation have, so far, fallen on deaf ears, the DCCI once again requested the police and administration to make every effort to nab those responsible for the shooting and take stringent action against them.
Meanwhile, the DCCI informed that some associations are collecting money from the business/trader community on the pretext of running their offices. On this, it made clear that any illegal collection from the business community without the knowledge of DCCI or the district administration will not be tolerated, and stern legal action will be initiated against those responsible.
Western Sumi Youth Front: The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has expressed shock and condemned the July 18 incident. “Such cowardly acts of attack on any individual are not just an attack on an individual but on the values of safety, security and respect that we all hold dear. Violence against anyone regardless of their position or standing is unacceptable. It strongly undermines the fabric of our society and instills fear and insecurity among citizens,” the Front stated in its press note.
“WSYF will not tolerate such acts of savage aggression and violence,” it asserted while adding, that the organization in its strongest terms condemns and vehemently denounce the acts of the perpetrators and appeal the law enforcing agencies to be prompt in arresting the culprits and award befitting punishment. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this different time and we wish him a swift and full recovery,” it added.
NPF Minority Wing: The President Minority Wing (NPF), Central has strongly condemned the shooting incident. “It was informed through sources that Sharma, the employee of 'Ankit Roadlines' Transport company, narrowly escaped from nearly death and admitted to Dimapur Hospital for further treatment. This kind of unlawful act should be condemned by one and all. Minority Wing (NPF) urged the administration to take necessary action to increase security measures in town areas for common people,” it stated in a press release.
