Kohima, June 4 (MExN): The Nagaland Government has notified the appointment of retired High Court judge Justice Lanusungkum Jamir as the Chairperson of the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC).
According to a notification issued by the Home Department's Political Branch on June 1, the appointment was made by Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on the recommendation of the committee constituted under Section 22(1) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.
Justice Jamir been appointed for a term of three years from the date he assumes office or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
A former Additional Advocate General of Nagaland, Justice Jamir was initially elevated as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on May 22, 2013, and subsequently served in the Manipur High Court before being appointed a permanent judge on November 12, 2018.
He returned to the Gauhati High Court as a Judge on June 10, 2022, and went on to serve twice as Acting Chief Justice.
Justice Jamir retired as a Judge of the Calcutta High Court in February 2026.
