JYO calls for improvement of connectivity in Longchem block

Urges govt employees to be in station

MOKOKCHUNG JUNE 18 (MExN): The Japukong Youth Organisation (JYO) today issued a statement expressing concern at the connectivity issues in Longchem and poor attendance of government employees in the block.

A press statement from JYO President, Lanusunep and General Secretary, Imlitenzuk appealed to all government employees of various departments posted under Longchem Block to be in station and attend to their duties regularly. It was informed that the JYO had also met Minister Temjen Imna Along Longkumer and the Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of Longchem to discuss the said matter.

With regard to connectivity, the JYO said that the road to Longchem town and its neighboring towns till Yajang (c) village “was as good as abandoned for the past few years.”

“However the presence of another economic strategic road that connects Longchem to Nakachari greatly benefited the people of the area. Unfortunately, even that road is in a dilapidated condition,” it said.

During monsoon Longchem town and most of the nearby villages are cut off for months on, the JYO informed. This, it said, also results in inflation and high cost of living for the people. “For example the cost of transport from HQ Longchem town for distributing PDS rice has increased resulting in the beneficiaries paying almost double the actual price,” it added, pointing out that this has been the scenario for the last few years.

The JYO reminded the authorities that the current treatment meted out to the area is “far from good.” It therefore appealed to the authorities concerned to put impetus in the repair and maintenance of the roads connecting Longchem especially the Longchem-Nakachari road.
