JYO to observe ‘Chada Nyi’ on August 10

Khonoma and KSC Junctions to be closed for repair; no complete closure of Jotsoma bye-pass

 

Jotsoma, August 8 (MExN): The Jotsoma Youth Organisation will be observing “Chada Nyi,” the unique festival of cleaning roads and paths leading to fields, on August 10, by repairing village roads and paths. 


In this connection, the Jotsoma Youth Organisation (JYO), while greeting the villagers and neighbouring villages on the occasion, also informed that besides cleaning footpaths to fields, it will be focusing on repairing of village roads from “Kohima, Dimapur, Khonoma Tri-Junction” near St. Andrew’s Church Jotsoma till the “Welcome Gate at Tsieyie Dzü stream, Science College-Kohima Road.”


The road has been a vital bye-pass link to Kohima, especially during emergencies, as being faced currently use due landslide at NH 29.


In view of the repair work, JYO President, Khrieto Peseyie and Secretary, Rokozhalie Gwerie in a press release notified the public that vehicular movement from Khonoma and KSC Junctions to be closed for repair on August 10. However there will be no complete closure of Jotsoma bye-pass.


However, vehicles carrying school going children and students to Kohima Science College, Jotsoma and Sazolie College are exempted during the school and college hours, it said.

Government’s neglect 


The JYO, in the release, also regretted that despite the fact that every monsoon season, vehicles are diverted to “Jotsoma Bye-Pass Road (Victory Road)” because of landslide at NH 29, the state Government failed to maintained it road and it remained neglected and unrepaired for more than two decades. 


As a result, there are frequent avoidable accidents and breakdown of vehicles causing untold sufferings to the travelers, it said. 


Over the years, the JYO further noted that Jotsoma villagers have been repairing the Bye-Pass Road and the Village Road by filling up potholes on the occasion of Chada Nyi in the interest of the general public.  


The road was black topped by the villagers in 2014 with the assurance from the Government that the entire expenditure incurred by the villagers shall be reimbursed, it maintained.

 
“The villagers through their own sources mobilized Rs 1.60 crore and on completion of the road by mid-April, 2014 and submitted the bill to the Department. Sadly, successive governments failed to reimburse even a single rupee till date,” it added.  


For Saturday’s repair work, JYO said that the Jotsoma Stone Crushers Union has volunteered to supply all the stone chips required for repairing the village road and the Jotsoma Truck and Excavator Owners has volunteered to let their machineries carry and clear the debris on the road free of cost.


Further, the youth organisation also informed all the travelers traveling the By-Pass Road to Kohima or Dimapur that it is the endeavour of JYO to let travelers pass through the Jotsoma area without any trouble or hardship.
