Dimapur, September 14 (MExN): A mass social work was conducted by the Kashiram Village Council along with the Kashiram Youth Organisation (KYO) to repair the stretch of road leading from Eden Hospital and Maple Tree School in Kashiram Village till Kashiram Village junction on September 11.
According to a press release from the KYO Secretary Chenti Kath on Tuesday, informed that the stretch of road is currently maintained by the Rangapahar Army Cantonment. However, lack of maintenance by the Rangapahar Army Cantonment during the past ten to eleven years had resulted in gradual deterioration. The bad roads not only add misery to the commuters but also damages vehicles, it added.
The release stated that the village council and the youth organisation decided to take matters into their own hands as all its requests to repair the roads were falling on deaf ears. As a result, a donation drive was conducted wherein residents of the village willingly accepted the challenge and donated willingly in cash and kind and also in labour/manpower.
Major contributors made on this social work were Sanen, Proprietor, Maple Tree School; Dr Maongwati; Imo Jamir, Commissioner & Secretary (Planning);Er Viketoulie, PHE; Thejao Mephfu, and Obangwati Pongen, Junior Engineer (Rural Development).
While parts of the road have been repaired out of community effort, the Village Council further appealed to the responsible authority to kindly look into the matter seriously and do the needful, the release stated.
