KASU asks PWD (R&B) to do more

DIMAPUR, JULY 18 (MExN): The Khaghaboto Area Students’ Union (KASU) has expressed dismay and shock that the concerned department has not yet taken any initiative to provide alternate arrangement for the aggrieved public except for the diversion to Patkai- Seithekima Road which is in a deplorable condition, following the collapse of the iron girder bridge over the Chathe River.

The union appealed to the PWD (R&B) to provide a suspension bridge pliable for four wheelers at the earliest similar to the bridge at Shozukhu-Zukihe Village under Khaghaboto Area of Niuland Sub-Division, although the said bridge was built and maintained by the locals.

At “this hour of crisis, the villagers are not in a position to afford materials to build the bridge,” the KASU stated, and asked the department to provide requisite materials and technical know-how following which the nearby villages will then provide manpower as much and as when needed.

It therefore urged the department to “immediately look in to the matter and consider the plight of the thousands of villagers who are facing untold troubles on a daily basis.”

It further extended its support to the demands made by three student bodies regarding the collapse of the iron girder bridge. “The demand being genuine should have been considered and taken up on a priority basis,” it added.
