A top leader of a militant outfit carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head and wanted by Manipur police in connection with various cases was arrested by a combined team of Manipur police and Delhi police, a police source in Imphal said on Monday.
The arrested militant leader was identified as Laishram Mangoljao Singh, chairman of the Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s war Group (KCP-PWG).
He was arrested with one of his associates identified as Hijbur Rahman from Nirankari Sarovar Bus Stand at Burari of New Delhi. They were reportedly there to seek a hideout.
A combined team of Manipur Police led by Imphal East district additional SP Roni Mayengbam and Delhi Police Special Cell Southwest Range arrested them on Sunday, acting on specific information regarding their movement, police also said. They are likely to be brought back to Imphal after availing transit remand from the local court there, the police source added.
State police alleged that KCP-PWG is operating from Delhi where some of its active members are staying there and indulging in collecting party fund from there.
The police alleged that the arrested militant leader and his associate were involved in hurling hand grenades, shoot-outs, killings, planting of bombs, running extortion networks by intimidating businessmen and politicians etc. in Manipur.
In the middle week of February this year, Imphal West district police has announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the militant leader.
A local court had also issued non-bailable warrant against him and his arrested associate after which the police announced the cash reward on their heads.
