One of the most prominent factors to develop and advance a society is science and technology, where medical science and healthcare play a major role, Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya said today.
Inaugurating the 1st Mid-Term Workshop of East Zone Urological Society of India today at Oking Hospital & Research Clinic, Kohima, the Governor also expressed happiness at the progress of medical technology in India.
“It is a matter of pride to say that the medical technology in our country is no lesser than many advanced countries,” he said.
He however, noted that it is pertinent to keep the field constantly advancing and keep abreast of changing times in order to achieve the best outcome. At the same time, Acharya called for making healthcare accessible and affordable. The arrival of minimally invasive techniques like laproscopy, endoscopy and robots, had resulted in patients making early recovery, he added.
Acharya also appreciated the organizing committee for holding the event in Kohima. “It is indeed heartening to note that with this event, Nagaland will also be included in the urological map of the world,” he added.
The live operative workshop will benefit many budding doctors to further sharpen their skills besides giving great opportunities to the needy patients with minimal cost and minimal morbidities, he noted.
Acharya also informed that Tata Trusts have agreed to collaborate with the State Government for up-gradation of existing District Hospitals so that Level 1 & 2 Cancer treatment can be done at District Hospitals itself. The company will also train local doctors for this purpose, he added.
Further pointing out that medical profession is a noble profession and that the role of doctors cannot be underrated since there is nothing nobler than saving lives, Acharya urged the fraternity to uphold ethical standards and as healthcare providers, ensure that “they do not merely treat a disease, but a sick human being.”
‘Respect Ayurveda ’
Meanwhile, Governor Acharya also called for giving equal respect to alternative systems of medicine and said that India is proud of her own healthcare system (Ayurveda), a DIPR report said. “The contributions in the health care system are commendable. Our scientist Rishies like Charak, Sushrut and Patanjali were leading beacons in the field of medicine for healthy India.”
Acharya further stated that “Yoga is India’s gift to the world, which is not only preventive but curative too and stressed on its importance and need to give more attention to indigenous medicines for treatment.”
The event was attended by many eminent doctors from all over India to discuss, review and teach various urological problems and procedures to the doctors in general and the budding surgeons in particular, the report added. Short speeches were delivered by President, East Zone Urological Society of India, Dr. K.K.
