Kohima, April 21 (MExN): Stating that that the occurrence of Swine Fever Disease is endemic in the state as well as neighbouring States, the Director of AH&VS Temsumeren today asked the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) across the state to keep vigil.

 

Timely vaccination in the form of mass or ring vaccination is the solution to prevent morbidity and mortality of the pigs, stated the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Director’s circular to the CVOs across the state.  

 

All CVOs are to be vigilant in their respective district about the occurrence of the disease. In the event of any suspected case, CVOs are to follow the guidelines and protocols of sample collection for testing at ELIISA Laboratory Kohima and further vindication by the competent authority (ICAR, Barapani. Meghalaya /NERDDL, Khanapara, Assam for NER States), it said.

 

 The director impressed upon the CVOs that as per the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, declaring of disease status like “occurrence / incidence / sporadic / outbreak cannot be made official/unofficial unless tested and vindicated by Laboratory Test.”  

 

“Hence, all CVOs are to note the matter seriously as outbreak of any disease affects the State/ Inter-State /Country's economy and is a matter of State /National importance,” he added.
