Keeping the promise

Dimapur, Nov 29 (MExN): In the formal session where Shyamal Datta was the Chief guest ,Dr. Mhabemo Ovung, Coordinator Dimapur AIDS Control Committee projected about their activities which is highly active since 2001- 2002. Abemo, President Positive Peoples Foundation also spoke on the topic, “Our progress, our challenges”. He extended his appreciation and said, “If it had been not there who knows many people could have died from the young age itself” and ended by saying, “We are vulnerable and we have the right to be protected.” Dr. T. Kikon, Chief Medical Officer preached, “Everyone has fallen short of glory of God and all is same before God. Some healthy people too die, so what is the use of worrying and depressing, for it is the time to stand for self-sufficiency and a time to show the younger generation that they should be aware of the dangerous elements. God says be Holy for I am Holy, so we should first try to be holy to prevent ourselves from HIV. Let us not be depressed but let us do the good for the people.” 

The NGOs were given time to highlight their activities. Firstly, it was Akimbo Society that briefly described about their activities related to implementation of home base care, support and service, regular home visit, free medical facilities, nutritional supports and education on personal hygiene and training the caretakers, etc. 

It was followed by the Prodigals Home, they told that the biggest challenge which they come across is the positively infected people roaming across Dimapur without any support and that an infected woman being a sole care taker of the family need love and affection  and gestures of love, so that we can strengthen their spirit. Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre flashed out their vision, “Rebuilding the decadent society for better tomorrow.” They explained about their mission, aims and objectives, areas of intervention, targets, programmes and services. Guardian Angel, described their programmes and it was clear that they were presently working along with sex workers and drug users, and also they targets for the homosexuals and is hoping to create a platform for them and in the coming year they are planning to start new projects related to mother and child. NEDHIV, which is a NGO registered in 1992, reminded about their works and their goals which is focused on reducing the drug abuse and preventing HIV/ AIDS and providing sufficient care. 

In brief they directed about their services and works and the functioning of the Positive Women wing. Lastly, the DKT India informed the people at various activities they were undertaking. Precisely, they spoke about the Project Aasha which covers Nagaland and Manipur, their strategy/ activity, and outreach achievements, challenges and also the lessons which they have learned but above all the way they are enabling environment for condom promotion and use strengthened. After the formal session there was refreshment which was followed by Extempore competition, tomorrow that is 30th Nov there will be Solo dance competition.
