The handing and taking over ceremony of the old and new office bearers of the Nagaland Chess Association (NCA) took place today at Hotel URA, Kohima.
During the programme, outgoing president Neiba Kronu, former minister, handed over file to the new president S Keoshu Yimkhiung, advisor Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland.
Kronu congratulated the new team for the tenure 2024-2027 and assured to continue his association with NCA for promotion of Chess in Nagaland.
In his address, Keoshu thanked the previous team led by President Neiba Kronu.
“Your dedication and sacrifice have left a lasting impact, and your hard work has ensured the success of this Association,” he said adding that their contributions will never go in vain but will continue to shine in the esteemed office of the NCA.
“Today, I humbly accept the responsibility of serving as the president of the Nagaland Chess Association. As I step into this role, I am fully aware of the challenges and opportunities ahead. Together, with the continued support of the former leadership and the cooperation of all members, I am confident that we will build upon the strong foundation that has been laid,” Keoshu said.
I am committed to building on that foundation, working together with all of you to elevate chess to even greater heights in Nagaland, he added.
Stressing on the need to build together Nagaland as chess powerhouse in the country, he said “We have immense talent here, and my goal is to nurture that talent, providing the resources, opportunities, and encouragement needed to succeed in both the national and international stages.
He believed that that the game of chess not only sharpens the mind but also teaches valuable life lessons- patience, strategy, and perseverance.
Under my leadership, he said, we will strive to promote and nurture these values within the association, while working to elevate the game of chess throughout Nagaland.
Our collective efforts will ensure that chess continues to grow, inspiring the next generation of players and bringing honour to our state, the Advisor said.
Earlier, the programme was led by P. Khezhie, outgoing vice president NCA while secretary report was given by Mughaho Awomi, outgoing honorary secretary NCA.
Awomi stated that from 2021 to 2024, the Association have made significant strides and achieved many milestones as a team.
He informed that the Association had organised free coaching camp, tournament and first ever tournament organised and created new district chess Association in various districts like Tuensang, Shamator, Longleng, Mokokchung, Tseminyu, Dimapur.
Later, NCA outgoing treasurer Kiyaselie Mere also presented the treasurer’s report.
The NCA new team for 2024- 27 includes; president- S. Keoshu Yimkhiung, working president P. Khezhie, vice presidents- Mughaho Awomi and Mohokiya Apon, honorary secretary- Vekukho Soho, joint secretaries- Melesayi Dawhuo, Mengise Haikam and Shiniho I. Jakhalu, treasurer- Sede Nagi, women coordinator- Dziesenuo Khoube and Khrienuo Riipreo and Helie Riipreo as advisor.
