Kevibou  Kense from Tuophema Village has emerged as the champion of the Northern Angami Sports Association Group D Naga Wrestling. Thefusa-o Kire from Gariphema Village came out as second, Neisezolie Metha in the third and Rokobeizo Zumvü  from Seiyhama Village in fourth.

In the junior category, Vivor Rio from Chiechama was declared as the champion while Neikhrietuo Kelelie, Seyievizo Metha and Dziesietuolie Rio as second, third and fourth.

 Altogether 38 wrestlers participated wherein 23 wrestlers (15 seniors and 8 juniors) were selected from NASA-D to compete at the region level organised by NASA.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Naga Wrestling held at Nachama Village this morning, Director, Fishery & Aquatic Resources, Kevisa Kense (IAS) said Nagas are progressing fast in all spheres, particularly in the field of sports.

Encouraging the youngsters, he said those who have the interest and talent in sports should hone their skills. Apart from academic excellence, Kense reminded of the huge prospects in the field of sports.

Towards this end, he also advised the parents to change their mindset of focusing only on academic excellence, but identify the talent of their children by guiding and encouraging their children to excel in the field of sports too.

To the sports enthusiasts, Kense motivated them to pursue their interest with dedication and consistency to achieve their goals.

“No person in this world is useless or hopeless. Every person has a value and a purpose in this earth” said Kense and also advised the youngsters to maintain their originality wherever one is placed in life.

Gracing the valedictory programme, Dy. Superintendent of Police, Atu Zumvü said a good sportsman doesn’t complaint even if he loses, neither take pride on his win. “Discipline, respect and honour for each other is important for a sportsperson, and even in other aspects of our lives” said Zumvü. 

Stating that Naga Wrestling is slowly becoming a popular game even across the world, he urged the young wrestlers give their best towards promoting the traditional game through fairness and equality.

The 4-day 30th NASA-D meet 2022 which kick off on January 18 at Botsa Village witnessed various games and athletics discipline. There are 12 villages under NASA-D.
