Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü is champion of 52nd ASA Wrestling Meet 2024

Defending champion Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü today retained the title at the 52nd Angami Sports Association (ASA) wrestling meet 2024 held at Khuochiezie (Kohima Local Ground).

25 years Pienyü, son of Late Thepfusanyü Pienyü from Kohima village downed strong contender Kezhavizo Thevo in the final to emerge the champion title. Weighing 136 kg, standing 6’3 and representing Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA), he walked away with a cash prize of Rs 2.50 lakh.

In semi finals, Pienyü downed Vaphizo Rutsa. He overpowered Vizakietuo Suohu in the quarter finals.

ASA President Er Lhoubeizo Kesiyie handed over ASA champion belt to Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü at the closing ceremony.

2nd place Kezhavizo Thevo
26 years Kezhavizo Thevo, son of Neile-o Thevo from Chedema village stood 2nd position and awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1.70 lakh. Standing 5’10 and weighing 103 kg, Thevo entered the final after defeating Keviser Dzüvichü in the semi finals. Also representing NASA, he downed Khrietsonyü Whuorie in the quarter finals.

3rd place Keviser Dzüvichü
28 years Keviser Dzüvichü, son of Khriengulie Dzüvichü from Kohima village downed Vaphizo Rutsa in the 3rd place bout. Weighing 126 kg, standing 5’11 and representing NASA, he downed Atuo Tevo in the quarter finals. He was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1.30 lakh.

4th place Vaphizo Rutsa
22 years Rutsa, son of Neisakhotuo Rutsa from Kohima village was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. Standing 5’11 and weighing 123 kg and representing NASA, Rutsa overpowered Keneiselie Khawakhrie in the quarter finals.

NASA is group champion
NASA with 90 points has emerged as the group champion of the meet. Khrielabeituo Semou from Nerhema village and representing NASA has been honoured with the best tactics award and fetched a cash prize of Rs 15,000 sponsored by Kezhalelie Keretsü, former ASA and NWA champion respectively.

Losing quarter finalists Vizakietuo Suohu (NASA), Khrietsonyü Whuorie (NASA), Atuo Tevo (Southern Angami Sports Association) and Keneiselie Khawakhrie (Western Angami Youth Organization) received Rs 20,000 each sponsored by Megolhou Dolie, Additional Director, Youth Resources & Sports Nagaland.

ASA acknowledged all the participants with Rs 2500 each.

ASA Vice President (Admn), Zapranei Mekro announced the new team of ASA for the tenure 2024-28 with Rokovikho Chale as president.

ASA Assistant Wrestling Secretary, Kedowhesie Meyase declared the 18 ASA wrestlers for the upcoming 29th NWA Wrestling Meet 2024 scheduled for March 26 at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima.

Rev Fr Visosieo Solomon Vizo, Parish Priest, St John the Evangelist Church Kohima prayed for ASA new office bearers and selected prayers.

Earlier, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhütso graced the meet as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. ASA President Er Lhoubeizo Kesiyie delivered presidential address while ASA Wrestling Secretary Visakrol Vitsu administered oath to 60 wrestlers. ASA General Secretary Er Seyielhouvi Nagi and joint secretary Keneilel Kevin Rote chaired the inaugural and closing ceremony respectively. ASA Auditor General Neisiesa Chüsi proposed vote of thanks.

15 wrestlers each from four ASA units; NASA, SASA, WAYO and Chakhroma Youth Organization (CYO) joined the meet. Angami Catholic Union assisted the meet as ground management.
