Khar Village Council ‘No’ to slicing of Mangkolemba

Mokokchung/Dimapur, March 26 (MExN): The Khar Village Council today came out against the proposal to attach a part of Mangkolemba Town under 29 Jangpetkong assembly constituency to the 30 Alongtaki assembly constituency and warned that the Khar villagers will fight the possible attachment tooth and nail.

A representation submitted to the Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner, Government of Nagaland and member of the Delimitation Committee from Nagaland by the Khar village council, stated that on enquiry, it is learnt that a part of Mangkolemba town had been recommended for possible attachment to 30 Alongtaki A/C at the consultative meeting on delimitation of Assembly Constituency under Mokokchung district with political parties and NGOs on March 20 last. The representation stated that this is not acceptable to the people of Khar village and Mangkolemba town, and further stated that they will fight ‘tooth and nail’ against the proposal.

Putting forth some reasons against the proposal, the release stated that the Mangkolemba administrative circle has been set up within the ancestral land of the Khar village and that the cultural and socio economic activities of Mangkolemba town an`d Khar village are inseparable. The release added that the proposed separation of the town with the village will not only disturb the present administrative harmony and all related functions but it will adversely affect the administrative convenience and social affinity and create imbalances, which the people of the Khar village and Mangkolemba cannot accept.

The release also stated that placing any part of Mangkolemba town to any other A/C is unjustified as the delimitation and assembly readjustment guidelines stipulate that while delimiting the A/C, efforts will be made to ensure that as far as practicable the sub-divisions are kept intact. ‘This exercise will severely affect the existing contiguity, public convenience and congenial environment within the town’ stated the release.

Further, the release stated that the present population of 30 Alongtaki A/C fulfills the  criteria laid down by the delimitation commission to be a separate A/C and added that the population of under Alongtaki constituency is soaring due to establishment of villages and towns in the Tsurong valley.

Standing on the above points, the representation stated that craving out a part of Mangkolemba town and placing it to Alongtaki A/C is not justified and not acceptable under any circumstances.

The representation letter to the Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Nagaland by the Khar village council was signed by the KVC chairman, B Atu and issued by T Pur Jamir.
