Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports, Khekaho Assumi has called for tapping young talents in the area of sports and guiding them through various programmes by inviting professional coaches within the country and abroad.
Addressing media persons at Hotel Saramati on Monday, Khekaho said that the central government through its Khelo India – National Programme for Development of Sports was trying to identify and promote sporting talents in the country.
Khekaho who recently took over the Department of Youth Resources & Sports said that even as he has only several months to work until next election, he would try to bring in tangible infrastructural development in all the districts without concentrating only in Kohima and Dimapur.
“There are some funds under the Khelo India scheme and we will invite professionals to impart training to young talents,” he said. Khekaho said that deserving candidates should avail such benefits under grant-in-aid and capacity building programmes.
Asked about the progress of constructing the State Stadium located near DC Court junction, Khekaho said the Department has decided to inspect the site in the first week of April and see the total progress and problems if any.
He also added that the Department has told the contractors of IG Stadium Kohima to finish the entire construction in time. Khekaho said that the Department has submitted progress reports and fund utilization certificates of all ongoing projects to the Centre since it refused sanctioning new projects unless progress reports and utilization certificates are submitted.
Khekaho also highlighted on the Scouting Camp and U-18 Futsal Tournament to be held on March 25 and 26 organized by A1 Powerplay in association with the Department of Youth Resources & Sports.
He said that the Futsal coaching camp would be held at DDSC Stadium where coaches from outside the state would be coming to impart trainings. He added that the camp was for those aged between 11-12. “Those selected during the camp will go to Guwahati where another selection will be held to be sent to Mumbai for a national level selection. Food, travel, lodge etc are all free and even scholarships are included,” Khekaho informed.
Organizer of the Scouting Camp, Akika of A1 Powerplay said that the participants of the coaching camp should be born between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2006. He informed that the last date for registration is March 24, 2017.
Further, he said that the U-18 Futsal Tournament would be held on March 26 at A1 Powerplay 3rd Mile, Dimapur at 4 PM with Parliamentary Secretary, Khekaho Assumi as the chief guest and Northeast United FC Scouts as special guests. Registration forms for the tournament would be available at Hibo, Powerplay, Nans, Popular Bakery, Kiran Sports and Cafe Gossip.
