Coaching camp for table tennis U-13 (girls and boys) commences
TUENSANG, JUNE 23 (MExN): The inauguration programme of Khelo India Centre, Tuensang was held at District Sports Office Hall in Tuensang on June 23. Along with it, coaching for table tennis under-13 years for both boys and girls also commenced.
The Tuensang District Table Tennis Association (TDTTA) felicitated winners and special guest, ThungchanbemoTungoe, NPS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang gave away prizes to Yimtisenla and Sangmai Tola for securing Gold in doubles category (girls) in the 13thInter District “Catch Them Young” tournament. Yimtisenla also secured Bronze in singles category.
The programme was conducted by I Imsejungla while invocation prayer was spoken by Ronglikhum, Youth Pastor, Sangtam Baptist Lithro, Tuensang.
Welcome address was delivered by President, TDTTA and keynote address was given by Rokokhotso, District Sports Officer, Tuensang.
DSO highlighted the aims and objectives of Khelo India and encouraged the players to take such opportunities to enhance their skills and mould their talents.
Special song was presented by Hepila while a short speech was given by the special guest.
Tungoe in his speech expressed appreciation to the champions and encouraged the players to take it as an example to excel in the field of sports. However, he also reminded that they should give equal importance in their studies as well.
He stated that the Nagas are apprehensive to take sports as a profession and even the parents are reluctant to see their children take up sports as a profession as many sports are injury prone. However, he emphasized that table tennis as a sport doesn’t have much injury and the players must let their parents know about it. He also mentioned that, to take up sports as a profession they must start early and develop it, emphasizing that nothing should be taken lightly but to be serious in their approach towards their interest.
“Be serious and concentrate on your skills, you shouldn’t play just for the sake of fun,” he stated.
Tungoe also stated that playing sports is beneficial in many ways. He said, “It improves our concentration, we have a peaceful sleep after playing, it improves our social interactions, you become more creative, refreshes our mind, there are many more examples which are beneficial from playing sports.”
Later, he declared Khelo India Centre, Tuensang open while playing a round of table tennis with the District Sports Officer.
