Khiamniungan Students’ Union appeals for precautionary measures

Dimapur, May 29 (MExN): The Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) in the interest of the Naga people for precautionary measures has appealed all individuals, families and especially the quarantined persons to adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within or outside the state.


KSU Vice President Talamong and Information & Publicity Secretary Shingnya in a press statement made an appeal to all individuals who are stranded in different parts of the country and those returnees who are quarantined in Tuensang, Kohima and Dimapur to comply with all norms and procedures during the quarantine period and the authorities should also follow the Standard Operating Procedures accordingly. 


“Violation of norms and procedures by the individuals or the authorities shall be given appropriate action as per the law deem fit for all safety and wellbeing,” the Union cautioned. 


The Union appealed to the state Government to provide all necessary safety equipments to all the frontline warriors in the state, with districts having COVID-19 positive cases on priority basis and also provide all instruments required for testing of virus in all Districts at the earliest.


Further, the union while appreciating the services rendered by the authorities and health workers, appealed “to be very cautious and perform their duties with utmost sincerity without any prejudice to the quarantined individuals so as to avoid recurrence of injustices similar to the Tuensang incident in the state.”


The Union further appealed the public to extend full co-operation to all the directives issued by the state Government and to maintain unity amongst the Nagas leaving aside all differences along tribal lines


Furthermore, KSU in a representation to the Chief Minister, Government of Nagaland on May 27, among other grievances, condemned the hasty and callous action and attitude shown by the authorities in the case of the returnees belonging to Tuensang district and asked for intervention in rectifying the action with appropriate urgent action.


Meanwhile, the KSU has requested all individuals and groups to abstain from posting any hate or negative comments in social media “Collective efforts and responsibilities of all concerned citizens is the need of the hour in the State,” it stated while appreciating all frontline health workers of Tuensang, Dimapur, Kohima and various students’ unions and societies working round the clock for the safety and containment of the Novel Corona virus.
