Khrietho Peli No.11 celebrates 'Kiahe Rütso' golden jubilee

A two day 'Kiahe Rütso' golden jubilee celebration as part of Sekrenyi festival of Khrietho Peli No.11 of P. Khel Kohima village got underway here today at P. Khel, Kohima village.  

Khrietho Peli No.11, ranging from the age group of late 40’s and early 50’s, had 103 members since its formation in 1987. Currently, there are 86 members.  

The group, since its formation, this has been involved in various activities, promoting the rich traditional and cultural heritage through folk songs and dances at different platforms.  

Notably, Khrietho Peli No.11 has also been featured in National Geographic Channel.  

Gracing the inaugural function as the chief guest, Vineipra Pienyü, Head GB, P. Khel, Kohima Village, President, Kohima District GB Association & Finance Secretary, Nagaland GB Federation said jubilee is a time of celebration, happiness and goodwill.  

Enlightening the gathering of various festivals observed by the Angamis, he stressed on the need to preserve and promote traditional and cultural heritage among the younger generations.  

Maintaining that Sekrenyi festival is a time to purify oneself, Pienyü appreciated Peli No. 11 for coming together and celebrating the festival with much pomp and zest.  

Talking to media persons, Keneingu Rutsa, the convenor of organizing committee, Khrietho Peli No. 11 golden jubilee 2018 said that during 'Kiahe Rütso,' the members come together in unison in their colourful traditional attire and finery and sing traditional songs and enjoy the festivity throughout the day.  

Informing that “Kiahe Rütso” has been taking place long time back, he said, “Our forefathers used to work in the field throughout the year and ‘Kiahe Rütso’ provided a platform for people to come and reason together after strenuous work.”  

“Sekrenyi festival is a time to cleanse oneself bodily and mentally,” Rutsa said adding, “It is also a time for people to take rest, bringing the people together for feasting.”  

The first three day is a time for performance of rituals and in the next 2/3 days the people come together according to age group for feasting.  

The festival is also a time of feasting well as to regain the energy lost which people have been working throughout the year as a result the people regained the strength to continue to do the work for the coming year again, he added. The convenor further maintained that during Sekrenyi, the enmity between two persons is resolved and they come closer and renews friendship.  

Friends, elderly persons and well wishers are also invited for feasting during “Kiahe Rütso.” Rutsa said different types of dishes and local rice beer are prepared for feasting.  

The celebration will go on till March 17.   Meanwhile, in commemoration of its golden jubilee celebration, Khrietho Peli No. 11 is all set to dedicate a monolith at its Peli Badze, Gaziephe, P Khel on March 24, at 11:00 AM.  

Vilieo-o Rutsa, treasurer, Angami Public Organization and advisor, Northern Angami Public Organization will be the chief guest.  

Welcome address will be delivered by Khrietho Peli No. 11 president Menuolhoulie Mechülho while vote of thanks will be proposed by its general secretary Vibeizolie Pienyü.
