Kidima students show the way

In what could be termed as setting a good trend, the Kidima Students’ Union (KSU) under Kohima district has proven the vigor of NGOs to garner fund and to stand on its own feet through hard labor. The Union, which undertook various projects under “golden jubilee projects,” included fishery pond, snail, piggery farm, cabbage garden and floriculture.

As expected, such projects did a good job, especially in meeting its requirements during the golden jubilee celebration earlier this year. Encouraged by positive response, a senior KSU leader said that some projects will continue.

Kidima, 35 km away from Kohima, gives a panoramic view of more than 36 villages and towns. Further, one could catch a spectacular view of Himalaya range too. More than ever in the last century, the villagers have trailed through a time of hope and despair too. The 1950s and 1960s were decades of great internal and external disturbances. It was a battle ground of the II World War between the Japanese and British Forces in 1944.

The KSU souvenir stated that the houses along with other wealth were razed down to ashes twice during the early 1960s. It was also a period for the inhabitants to prove their strength and emerge out as a true fighter into a competition arena. Then from ground zero, they began to kick-start to rebuild their sanctified homeland and bring glory to the village again. Today, the village has 410 graduates, 4 Ph.D and 1078 matriculates. The strength of the government servants stand at 542 and 62 gazetted officers.
