Kikheto urges forest dept staffs to be ambassadors for climate change

ZUNHEBOTO, JULY 13 (MExN): Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Environment Forest and Climate Change, Y Kikheto Sema on Friday visited the Office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Zunheboto for an interaction session and meeting with the officers and staff of the department.

While addressing the meeting, Kikheto urged upon the staff to always be sincere towards their job and the government and work towards sensitizing and creating awareness among the people for protection and conservation of environment and biodiversity, a DIPR report stated.  Also conveying greetings on behalf of the Minster for Environment Forest and Climate Change, C L John, Sema appealed the department to be ambassadors towards prevention of climate change. 

He suggested that DEFCC should work in coordination with district administration and civil societies in changing the mindset of masses for tree plantation and wildlife conservation.

He also suggested that the department should not only work for the well-being of the forests but also focus on waste management initiatives, reduction of pollution and wildlife protection. He further emphasized about the awareness generation through churches and how NBCC has dedicated the first Sunday of June every year for the prevention of climate change and bio-diversity conservation. 

“We cannot run away from climate change, we cannot fight nature but we have to opt for the sustainable living which is in sync with nature, the DIPR quoted Sema as saying.
