Kiphire awaits confirmatory test result of first suspected COVID-19 case

One returnee, suspected to be COVID-19 positive after testing from Trunat Machine, has been kept in isolation ward at COVID-19 Hospital Kiphire. The suspected sample reportedly has been sent to Biosafety Level (BSL-3) Laboratory, Kohima for confirmation.

The Deputy Commissioner Kiphire, Abhinav Shivam, IAS informed this during the monthly District Planning Development Board (DPDB), which resumed after a gap of two months at DCs Conference Hall, Kiphire town. If confirmed, this would be the first COVID-19 case from the district. 

The DC, however, urged upon citizens of Kiphire not to panic or spread any unconfirmed information as test result is yet to be confirmed.

He further advised officers and citizens to avoid traveling to and out of district as far as possible during this pandemic. 

Presiding over the meeting, Minister for Soil & Water Conservation, Geology& Mining, V Kashiho Sangtam also called for maintaining social distancing and strictly implementing all SOP as it was the only way to defeat COVID-19. 

The only way to keep the virus at bay is to work together by observing SOPs  as laid down by the government and cooperate with the government so that there is no community spread, he said. 

He also lauded District Administration, Police, Medical, HODs, CSOs and all frontline workers for working hard in containing the virus. 

Giving the overall data of COVID-19 update Dr. E Motsuthung Patton CMO Kiphire informed the meeting that so far 486 returnees have been tested through Trunat machine.

Out of these, 476 results have come out negative, while 2 patients are in COVID Care Cente, 1 patient is currently kept at isolation ward at COVID-19 Hospital Kiphire, he added.
