Kiphire | April 23
The long awaited dream for development initiative in Kiphire under ‘Aspirational District’ programme became a reality today with the formal launch of ‘Integrated Scheme for Development of Eri & Oak Tasar Silk Industry in Kiphire District’ by Sericulture department, nearly two years after the district was declared as an ‘Aspirational District’ in November, 2017.
The formal launch of the ‘orientation workshop on integrated schemes for development of Eri & Oak Tasar Silk Industry in Kiphire District’ project exclusively for Kiphire under the ‘Aspirational District’ programme was held at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall, attended by hundreds of enthusiastic farmers from across the district on April 23.
Addressing the agrarian farmers, ADC Reny Wilfred IAS, Kiphire asserted that it is a proud day for the people of Kiphire as this is the first project to be implemented under the ‘Aspirational District’ programme and is privileged to be a part of the launching programme, let this be the beginning of a new journey.
He said that one of the problem Kiphire is facing is employment opportunity and the answer to that problem is project such as these, as this project will generate employment at rural level, if the department put all its financial resources, energy and heart in implementing the fund given, we have the golden opportunity before us to make this project a success story for our district.
Highly impressed by the way Sericulture Department has gone all out to bring the project to Kiphire under ‘Aspirational District’ programme, the ADC appealed to the other departments to take a cue from the Sericulture Department how to get things done in Central level stating that comparatively Sericulture is a small department yet it has achieve what other big department such as R&B, PWD, PHED and NH could not.
He also lamented that it is disheartening that there is no water in Kiphire. “GoI wants to help small project but the Nagaland PHED department is not able bring any project, but in the case of Sericulture department we did not even request them for the project but they themselves have brought the project and implementing it,” he stated.
Castigating the R&B and NH department for the deplorable road condition in Kiphire, the ADC pointed out that two lane road construction is pending for the last 8 years.
He pointed out that the department has done nothing taking the advantage of ‘Aspirational District’ programme. “It is a department that get huge amount of funds, what they are doing for development of the district when small department are able to do a lot for the department of the district?” he questioned.
Delivering a keynote address, Sanny Pongener Dy. Director informed that keeping in mind the development deficit and backwardness of Kiphire project was approved by Ministry of Textile, GoI under the ‘Aspirational District’ programme and the project will be go on for 2 years which may be extended depending on the success of the project.
Giving a detail power point presentation Vikehelie Penyu, Sericulture Officer stated that the objective of the project is to empower and provide sustainable livelihood to village people in Kiphire district and generate income of the people through Eri, Oak Tasar, Reeling, Spinning and Weaving activities.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Mhathung Kikon, Dy Director, and vote of thanks by S. Puchong Khiam A.S.O Kiphire which was followed by technical session.
