Kiphire district Para Legal Volunteers attend training

Kiphire, April 2 (MExN): An orientation training programme was organized by Kiphire District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) on March 30 at the DC Conference Hall, Kiphire which was attended by 35 participants.  

Mayang Lima, Sessions Judge & Chairman of Kiphire DLSA in the introductory speech stated that Legal Aid Clinic could not be open till date in the Kiphire district because of “reasons beyond control” but appreciated the efforts put up by the Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of Kiphire District.  

Mayang stated that PLVs serve as a bridge to fill the gap between the grassroot level and legal institution and they should work as network throughout the 11 districts for providing free legal assistance to legal aid seeker.  

SDO, Kiphire Benjamin urged the PLVs that although they may not have legal background, they should know the basic legal knowledge and equip themselves so that they can assist the common people in a competent manner.  

Resource persons at the programme included Akumla Longchari, Master Trainer (PL), NSLSA, Tongpang L Jamir, Master Trainer (PL), NSLSA, L. Likhase Sangtam, Retainer Lawyer, Kiphire DLSA, Yimtsusangla Chang, Retainer Lawyer and Tuensang, and M. Glory Sema, Panel Lawyer, NSLSA.  

A press release from NSLSA stated that participants raised queries and sought directions on the fact that there was no separate women cell at the Kiphire District Jail and women counselor at the Police Station to which the Kiphire DLSA gave directions to approach the DC of Kiphire requesting to take up steps for constructing a Jail for Women Cell since planning Board has a local Area Development Fund.  

The participants also put up issues relating to seeking of Legal assistance to bail out the accused detained in jail for lack of money to hire advocate to which the Kiphire DLSA recommended them to approach the Front Office of Kiphire DLSA and fill form seeking free legal assistance.  

Queries on matter of rehabilitation of victims of Child Labour after the successful rescue of the Child in need of care & protection was also raised and the remedy for such issues was to send them to protection home and children home.
