‘Kiphire hospital not in position to accommodate COVID-19 patients’

Kiphire, May 29 (MExN): Responding to the State Government’s directive to send COVID-19 Positive Patients to the respective districts, United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji (USLP) has urged upon the government to reconsider the decision stating “the health infrastructure in Kiphire district and Longkhim-Chare Zone under Tuensang district will not be able to withstand the full force of COVID-19, if positive patients are send to the district primarily because it succinctly have access to good health care.” 


USLP President T Seopi Sangtam and General Secretary, P Achumse Sangtam in a press release stated that “in the given circumstances, USLP as duty bound is ready to bring back returnees who are under quarantine in Kohima to the district; however it maintained that due to non-availability of requisite manpower and TruNat with Biosafety Level-3 at COVID-19 District Hospital Kiphire for which district will not be in a position to facilitate and accommodate COVID-19 patients.”


It added that “we are acutely aware that the government is under pressure to shift all returnees to their respective districts from various organizations which USLP felt the appeal from various organizations may have stemmed out because the resources needed to look after the returnees was getting exhausted.” 


Further, USLP stated that at this point of time government must take the responsibility and see to it that COVID-19 positive patients is well taken care of where there is robust health care facility to stymie, contained and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
