
Kiphire, April 20 (MExN): The Kiphire Police has set up an Anti-Narcotic Task Force in the district under a gazetted officer as directed by the Nagaland Police Headquarter.
In a press release on April 20, the Superintendent of Police Kiphire, K Swarnambika stated that it was constituted to curb the menace of drug abuse in the district.
The Kiphire Police is going to take various initiatives such as drug abuse awareness programme among the students in the educational institutions, police -public interactive sessions etc, it said.
Apart from such proactive awareness programmes, the Anti-Narcotic Task Force will also conduct raids, MVCPs to check the drug smuggling, it informed.
Meanwhile, in a meeting conducted with the police officers in SP's chamber, suggestion was put forward to post dedicated trained police officer in the Anti-narcotic task Force in each district to tackle drug related crimes as the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 itself is a special Act unlike other IPC (Indian Penal Code) Crimes, the release said.
The SP Kiphire also requested the State Government to construct more children parks, public parks, Indoor and outdoor games zone area in the district to keep the youngsters engaged in free time and away from drugs, it informed.
She also requested all the civil society organisations, religious institutions, village councils, educational institutions, political organisations, media and general public to come forward to fight against drug abuse since it's a collective responsibility of the society, it added.
The district top police officer has requested for the cooperation of the general public to the police and further urged them to take e-pledge 'Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs,’ an initiative by National Narcotics Coordination Portal (NCORD) under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. This e-pledge will instil a sense of moral responsibility among the citizens to fight against drug menace, she added.
