More than 70 students from Kiphire town today participated in the Clean Election marathon race organised by the United Sangtam Students conference (USSC) at Kiphire headquarter. The race was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner Kiphire Sedevkho Khro in the presence of Ben Longkumer Superintended of Police and Mazivelou Theruja, Chief Judicial Magistrate.
Speaking at the flag off programme, the DC lauded the initiative of the USSC and the Superintendent of Police, Ben. “This is the first of its kind in the district and should not stop here but has to take it forward,” the DC said while encouraging, “let this kind of activities be contagious and other district also get involved in this kind of noble activities so that the society we live become better and more progressive.”
Sharing his concern, the DC said, “Clean Election is not easy but if we have the will power nothing is impossible” and asked the gathering to take the message forward and added, “it is better late than never.”
Apila Yingbihthonger, of Agape school who is also the Brand Ambassador of YouthNet Clean Election Campaign Kiphire spoke on the theme and called upon the gathering to say ‘not to cash for vote.’ While stating that “selling of votes leads to corruption” she appealed not to “repeat the past mistake over and over again.”
“In few month times all of us will be eligible for voting in the next General Election 2018. Let us all be an agent of change by standing firm for clean election,” she added.
Loius, Executive Secretary USSC also lauded the initiative of the DC and the District Administration Kiphire, Superintendent of Police & DEF Kiphire, Bao Tsurho, and Peter Kuotso for the valuable service that they have rendered towards the success of the programme.
In the boy’s category, Tsali of ZPC was the winner, while Ariba of Agape School and Alum of Trinity School were declared first and second runners up respectively. In girl’s category, Alivi of GHSS emerged winner while Yantsushe of Yangphi School and Alina of El Beth were declared the first and second runnerup respectively.
