Kisan Goshti and demonstration at Old Piphema

Medziphema, February 4 (MExN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) organized Kisan Goshti and demonstration at Old Piphema village under Medziphema Block on February 3.  

In the first session, Chubanaro Jamir, Block Technology Manager (BTM), Medziphema block highlighted the activities of ATMA carried out under the block and also briefed the farmers about Kisan Gosthi, informed a press release.  

Resource person Lireni Kikon, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK (ICAR) spoke on the topic ‘Beekeeping and its benefits.’  

The farmers then visited some of the apiaries at Old Piphema village, where they had an interactive session with the resource person and discussed their problems. Kikon advised them on maintenance, site requirements, maximizing honey production, artificial feeding. She further suggested the farmers and Self Help Groups (SHGs) to take up beekeeping as honeybees offer twin gifts of honey and higher crop yield.  

In the second session, Keneisano Krose, Assistant Technology Manager, Medziphema block conducted demonstration on ‘Disease management of King Chilly (Raja Mircha)’ with bio-control agents such as trichoderma. Demonstrations were also done on the topic ‘Management practices on beekeeping’ emphasizing on some of the apiary management technique and ‘Oyster Mushroom Cultivation’ by Lireni Kikon.  

Further, Dr Ebibeni Ngully, Chief Technician Officer, KVK (ICAR) gave a brief description about the ongoing works and projects of KVK Medziphema and appealed to the farmers to adopt the technologies that KVK are trying to disseminate.  

Altogether, 27 farmers attended the programme. Mushroom spawn and trichoderma were distributed to the farmers, while seed money was also given to the selected SHGs.
