The five-day long 40th sports meet 2023 of Khezha-Kuzha Tephe Sports Association (KKTSA) got underway at Sports Complex, Pfutsero under Phek district on January 9.
Gracing the inaugural ceremony as the special guest, Nagaland Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Minister Neiba Kronu maintained that the successful sportspersons are the most respectful citizen in the society. In this, Kronu called upon the sportspersons to be gracious and exercise healthy competition to excel and win the heart of the fans. He called upon the youth to take up sports on professional perspective.
Kronu challenged the budding sportspersons to be committed and target for national and global sports arena. The Minister also told the youth to take discipline and punctuality as the focal ingredient to excel in sports.
Later, Kronu assured to donate a trophy for the best discipline team to strengthen the level of discipline amongst the contingents.
‘Develop the spirit of peace through sports’
Also gracing the function as the Guest of Honour, Dr Neisatuo Mero, intending candidate for the upcoming state general elections, maintained that sports promote a healthy society, apart from earning fame and glory. He called upon the youth to develop the spirit of peace through sports. He stressed on the need to get the indigenous sports recognized at the national level.
The inaugural function was chaired by Lhiwepelo Ritse while Rev Dr Obed Marhu, executive director KBCA pronounced an act of blessings.
KKTSA President Kewete Mero delivered presidential address.
KKTSA Technical Secretary, Wede Mero administered oath to eight participating teams, which include; Pfutseromi village, Lekromi village, Kami village, Zapami village, Lasumi village, Leshemi village, Lewoza village and Khezhakeno village. Rhitsho Mero led the tournament torch bearer.
The five day long tournament will witness football, basketball, volleyball, arm wrestling and track & field events. Day one event was marked by athletics and arm wrestling.
The Phek District Football Referee Association will officiate the football event. Lhiwepelo Ritse, Wepe Wetsah, Krove Koza and Weru Mero will act as chief referees for athletics, football, volleyball and basketball event respectively. Base Gym will officiate arm wrestling event.
The closing ceremony will take place on January 13 at 4:00 pm.
