KLC launches ‘Legal Literacy & Awareness for Social Justice’

Kohima, July 22 (MExN): The Professor-in-Charge, Kohima Law College (KLC) & President NVCO Kezhokhoto Savi officially launched “Legal Literacy & Awareness for Social Justice” on July 20 at Kohima Law College. 

A press release issued by the Media Cell KLC stated that the “Legal Literacy & Awareness for Social Justice,’’ was launched in order to conduct several legal literacy & awareness campaign in various institutions such as colleges so as to promote ‘Social Justice’ in our society. While launching Kezhokhoto Savi declared the several topics to be conducted in their legal literacy & awareness campaign such as Consumer Rights; Environment; Food Safety & Standard Act 2006; Human Rights; National Food Security Act 2013;Street Vendors Act; Public Services Delivery System; Rights of Indigenous Peoples; State Consumer Helpline Toll Free No. 1800-345-3701, etc. Savi touched briefly on each topic and also stressed on the rights of “Naga Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland” in the midst of State Government ongoing exercises of RIIN. He said that ‘Social Justice’ is the need of the hour and when he said justice – it is the quality of being just, fair and reasonable, righteousness, equitableness and moral rightness.The concept of social justice hinges on the idea of equality within society. Social justice advocates work to alleviate poverty, entails Human rights promotion, etc, it added.

The release also stated that  each student of the final year LL.B were allotted seven minutes time to present a topic of their choice which is more or less a final rehearsal to be conducted in several educational institutions which is to be led by its Professor-in-Charge Kezhokhoto Savi. 

Every topic seemed to be important as awareness is lacking in our society be it ‘food safety’ or ‘food security’ where food available in the market are not safe and the citizens are not getting rice as per entitlement under National Food Security Act 2013. Every citizen is required to be educated with their rights so to contribute towards Social Justice. As a consumer activist Savi assured that the awareness on consumer rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 would be reach out to citizen, it added.
