Ruokuovolie Rutsa, the newly elected councillor of Ward-3 North Block under Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) lauded the peaceful conduct of the recently concluded Urban Local Bodies (ULB) polls as a triumph of democracy during a thanksgiving programme in Kohima today.
Addressing a gathering at the Capital Convention Centre, Rutsa promised to serve the ward and the city tirelessly for the next five years. He emphasised the ward's diversity, which covers five colonies—Pezielietsie, Keziekie, Gaurilane, Kenuozou, and Mission Compound.
Highlighting the presence of various Naga tribes and residents from outside the state, Rutsa called for unified efforts to enhance the ward. With experience as chairman of the Pezielietsie Welfare Board for two terms, Rutsa highlighted common issues affecting all colonies under the ward, stressing the need to address basic needs, including sanitation. He sought the collective support of all residents to enhance the ward and uplift Kohima city.
NDPP Kohima Region President & Chairman NHHDL, Prasielie Pienyü stressed that the ULB polls laid a solid foundation for preparations for the 2028 state assembly polls, emphasising the importance of strengthening the party at the grassroots level.
Reiterating CM Rio’s assurance of support to all councillors in the development of the city, Pienyü acknowledged the challenges awaiting the councillors after a 20-year hiatus in ULB elections. He encouraged the newly elected councillors to work diligently for the progress of the city and its residents.
As the NDPP won the majority of seats in the district, Pienyü mentioned that proposals were made by winning NPP and Independent candidates to join and merge with the party. However, he said that the NDPP is in no hurry for such requests, stating that these matters will be discussed later.
NDPP 10 Northern Angami A/C General Secretary Neingusalie Khruomo, in a short message, urged Rutsa to excel and make Ward-3 exemplary within the Council. Pezielietsie Colony chairman Roko Angami commended the friendly electoral contest within the ward.
He encouraged Rutsa to collaborate with the losing candidates, emphasising the importance of unity and collective efforts for the welfare of the public.
Dignitaries present at the thanksgiving service included; IT & Communication, Economics & Statistics and Evaluation advisor H Sethrongkyu Sangtam, NDDP Central Executive Board secretary Peter Kuotsu, Special Assistant to CM Vibeilietuo Kets, and newly elected councillors from other wards under KMC, among others.
The programme was chaired by Savio Metha, Secretary NDPP Youth Organisation Kohima region.
