KMC councilors explain crisis events

Dimapur, October 4 (MExN): Eight councilors of the Kohima Municipal Council today issued a statement clarifying what actually “transpired or conspired” leading to the no-confidence motion against KMC chairperson Menuovilie and the subsequent crises recently.

The statement was issued by councilors Neivor Rutsa, Vipopal Kintso, Sakhol, Thejangulie, Keduolhoulie, Neilasielie, Vilar Rutsa and Neiphrelie. The councilors explained that even before the no-confidence motion was moved on September 28, the NPF councilors had consulted with the NPF high-command detailing their inability to function under the chairperson. “Believing that the party leadership clearly understood” the matter, the eight councilors moved the motion wile the deputy chairperson was asked to resign “to pave way for change of leadership.”

After the motion was submitted to the Kohima DC, the party’s high command constituted a committee to look into the KMC crisis putting across ‘clearly that the leadership issue should be solely within the NPF party as it enjoys absolute majority.’ The eight councilors put their faith and confidence in this, the statement said. Later it was decided to abide with the party’s decision “but in an astonishing twist before the house could meet as convened by the DC on 11th September 2007, five councilors including two NPF took a vote-face and withdrew their signatures consequent to the defeat of the motion even before it was tabled’ the councilors lamented. Nevertheless the motion was moved signed by nine councilors including eight NPF. The councilors stated that “the KMC crisis unsolved therefore, the constituted committee once again convened meeting of all NPF councilors, whereby a clear majority within the party in favor of the motion was established to which effect the committee is said to (have) submitted to the president, NPF. But in spite of that, the party high command failed to take any action.”

Further, it became evident that Menuovilie and the “NPF minority group” was horse-trading and “cajoling” the support of the non-NPF councilors to retain the chairpersonship” whereas the president himself had cautioned the involvement of others in the issue, the councilors stated. The party remained a mute spectator, “mindless of the faith and confidence the majority NPF councilors had reposed on the party leadership” it added.

The councilors also took strong exception to the “attempted hand-wash” of the NPF president as stated in a local daily that “the party had nothing to do with the motion as it was purely a matter of handout within the KMC.” Stating that the party has no concern for the party and its members and is only for vested interests, retaining those in ‘personal coterie,” the eight councilors have decided to abstain from the party’s activities. They will abstain from the NPF’s activities until and unless the party’s leadership “apply its conscientious sagacity giving an unambiguous clarification and indication to redress the grievances we have put across.”
